What kind of energy we have throughout the day depends on what we eat. That doesn’t mean that eating healthy meals has to be boring or tasteless. Food is meant to be enjoyed, with nothing off limits. Add flavor with herbs and spices not calories. There’s room for everything in a diet, even dessert. Click on sections below to find out more.
There’s a reason why breakfast has been called the most important meal of the day. Without it the body can feel restless. Breakfast is also needed to provide the brain with the fuel it will need to operate at optimal levels.
Aim for proteins, fruits and vegetables and lower amounts of carbohydrates. Carbs cause the brain to release chemicals that signal your body to relax or feel fatigued, not something you need midway through your day. Make sure your selecting food that provides fuel to finish the day out efficiently. Salads, wraps and soups are good choices.
Often our dinner meals are much larger, heavier, and eaten later than they should be. The body needs only a small amount to let it know that it is constantly receiving nutrients and can use up what is has received instead of storing it. Dinner should be eaten at least 3 hours prior to sleeping so the body has time to begin processing it.
Dessert can be a delicious addition to the day or help celebrate on occasion. But it definitely doesn’t have to destroy the good you’ve done earlier in the day. Dark chocolates and fruits can benefit the body and provide nutrients the body can use. Dessert can be enjoyed-just watch portions and enjoy naturally sweet treats.
